Looking back on my life and the journey of this blog, I realize that last year, much of my content focused on perspectives as a person with disabilities. After becoming a mid-career individual with severe physical disabilities, I felt a strong responsibility to share insights from this new perspective. I wanted to offer encouragement to those in similar circumstances and contribute to raising awareness about the challenges faced by people with disabilities.
This approach led to a wealth of positive responses—messages of support and heartfelt empathy from readers. I am deeply grateful for these connections. However, as I reviewed my posts, I began to wonder: “Am I focusing too heavily on my perspective as a person with disabilities?” This realization prompted me to reexamine another important part of myself.
My Perspective as an Able-bodied Person
Until I became disabled in my 30s, I lived as an able-bodied individual. During that time, I was largely unaware of the realities faced by people with disabilities. Yet, the experiences, joys, and struggles of those years are invaluable parts of who I am. They shaped my outlook on life and continue to influence me today.
As I immersed myself in disability-focused content, I noticed that my earlier perspective as an able-bodied person had gradually faded into the background. This made me realize that incorporating this viewpoint into my writing is essential—not only to honor my past but also to bring more balance to my work.
A Year of Balance
This year, I aim to focus on “balanced expression.” While I will continue to value the perspective I’ve gained as a person with disabilities, I also want to revisit and share experiences from my able-bodied years. Stories of success and failure at work, the excitement of pursuing hobbies, the joys of ordinary life, and the challenges I faced—these moments deserve to be told.
I believe that embracing both perspectives will allow my content to resonate with a broader audience. Able-bodied readers can gain insight into the realities of living with a disability, while readers with disabilities might find value in the experiences of my earlier life. Bridging these perspectives can foster mutual understanding and empathy.
The Goal for Next Year: A Hybrid Approach
Through this year’s efforts, I hope to evolve my posts into a “hybrid perspective” next year—one that blends the able-bodied and disabled viewpoints into a comprehensive and nuanced narrative. This won’t simply be a combination of two perspectives but rather an authentic representation of my unique journey as an individual who has lived both experiences.
Through this approach, I want to share a message that transcends differences: “We all have diverse perspectives, and together we can create a world of coexistence and mutual respect.” By understanding and valuing each other’s experiences, I believe we can expand the circle of empathy and connection.
A Message to My Readers
My journey as a writer will undoubtedly involve continuous trial and error. I will keep exploring how best to craft articles that resonate with readers and reach a wider audience. Your support and feedback will play an invaluable role in shaping my work.
If my posts touch your heart or seem helpful to someone you know, I would be deeply grateful if you could share them or leave a comment. Your voices inspire me to take the next step and continue my journey of growth.
Moving forward, I am committed to crafting posts that balance both perspectives. Together, let’s strive for a society where we respect and embrace each other’s differences.
