When I first began living with my disability, I struggled for a long time to find my place in society. Suddenly, my connection to the world felt fragile, and I lost sight of where my value lay. However, after remarrying, my life started to change little by little. Today, I’d like to share with you what I learned through this experience, particularly the importance of “leaning on others.”

The Loneliness and Anxiety I Faced
After becoming disabled, loneliness consumed me. The things I used to do with ease suddenly became impossible, and I often found myself overwhelmed with despair. Losing my ability to fully contribute at work and feeling uncertain about my social standing, I began to doubt my own worth. “Am I no longer needed by society?” This question lingered constantly in my mind.

I tried many things to find my place, but none seemed to work. The harder I pushed myself, the more I became aware of my limitations. Eventually, I was crushed by the pressure to “handle everything by myself.”

The Support I Found in Remarriage
Then came remarriage, a major turning point in my life. Living with my new partner helped me to change my mindset about asking for help. Until then, I thought relying on others was a sign of weakness—something to be ashamed of. However, with her support and understanding, I slowly began to see things differently.

Through her encouragement, I realized that leaning on others isn’t a sign of weakness but a step toward becoming stronger. It’s not about enduring everything alone. In fact, allowing others to help opens new possibilities that I couldn’t have seen on my own.

Taking on a New Goal
After remarrying, I set a new goal for myself: to become a certified counselor. Having experienced my own hardships, I wanted to help others facing similar struggles. However, the path to certification wasn’t easy. It required a lot of time and energy to study and prepare, more than I had anticipated.

But my wife’s support allowed me to focus on my studies without overextending myself. Additionally, my friends and family provided encouragement, and thanks to their support, I was able to keep moving forward step by step.

This journey taught me again how vital it is to lean on others. Without the support of those around me, I would have found it much harder to achieve this goal. Their assistance allowed me to overcome obstacles I couldn’t have faced alone.

How Connections with Others Open New Paths
Asking for help isn’t about showing weakness. On the contrary, it allows us to push beyond our limits and find new ways forward. I learned this through remarriage, and it has helped me grow into the person I am today, confident in my ability to pursue my work as a counselor.
