Why do we work every day? To earn a living, to support our family, or perhaps to achieve self-fulfillment. Each of us has our own reasons and goals. But have you ever thought about what “fundamental work” means—the work that directly sustains human existence?
My answer to this question has gradually shifted over time.
Currently, I work for a major manufacturer while also counseling and blogging. These jobs have brought me joy and personal growth. Particularly, counseling, where I can be a source of support for others, feels like very “fundamental work.” It’s deeply human and fulfilling.
However, amidst this fulfilling lifestyle, I began to feel that something was “missing.” I started craving a stronger connection to nature and a deeper sense of being alive. And gradually, I realized that I had a growing desire to try my hand at farming.
The Challenge of Farming — A Dialogue with Nature
Farming. One of the oldest and most fundamental human activities. We till the soil, plant seeds, invest time and effort into nurturing crops, and harvest what sustains our lives. This simple yet profound cycle of life is something I feel drawn to experience firsthand.
Of course, I’m not unaware of the challenges that farming entails. Early mornings, the unpredictability of weather, the uncertainty of harvests—it’s not an easy path. But still, there is something deeply appealing about the time spent in nature, the gratitude for its bounty, and the joy of living in sync with the rhythms of the earth.
As a practitioner of parallel life, I aim to live in harmony with my multiple paths and find personal fulfillment in diverse ways. Farming, I believe, could become a new “pillar” alongside my work in the city and my counseling activities, supporting my own sense of well-being.
Synergies Through Farming — Discovering a New Self
Another reason I’m drawn to farming is that I see potential synergies between farming, counseling, and blogging—three pillars of my current life.
For example, by deepening my connection with nature through farming, I could refresh my mind and body, which in turn would enhance my counseling practice. There’s even the possibility of introducing new methods, such as nature therapy or agritherapy, to offer my clients.
Moreover, by sharing my farming experiences through my blog, I hope to spread the joy of living in harmony with nature and the importance of “fundamental work” to a broader audience. This could offer new perspectives to readers, helping them to foster a deeper connection with nature and with themselves.
My Future Life’s Work — Moving Toward Fundamental Work
In the past few years, I’ve been practicing parallel life, commuting between the city and rural areas. In doing so, I’ve explored what I truly value and what brings me joy in life through my work, counseling, and blogging.
And now, I’m beginning to realize that one of the answers lies in “fundamental work.” Through farming, I hope to reconnect with my inner desires, strengthen my bond with nature, and build an even richer and more fulfilling life.
Life can be reimagined in many forms. My current path towards farming is just one step in that direction. I look forward to sharing what I learn from this new challenge with all of you.
Farming, counseling, blogging—by weaving these paths together, I will continue to explore the meaning of “fundamental work.” Why not find your own “fundamental work” as well? It might just be the step that changes your life.
