In comparison, solar panels last 20–30 years, and wind turbines 15–20 years, making hydropower the most cost-effective renewable energy option.

Many people think renewable energy = environmentally friendly, but solar panels and wind turbines require significant resources for manufacturing and disposal.
In contrast, hydropower operates sustainably once established and has minimal environmental impact over time.
🚀 How Can We Increase Hydropower?
Some might ask, “Isn’t hydropower already fully utilized?”
Actually, there are still many ways to expand its use!
✨ 1. Promoting Small-Scale Hydropower
Building new large dams can be difficult, but small hydropower plants still have plenty of potential!
By installing small-scale generators in local rivers and irrigation channels, communities can have their own stable, localized power sources.
Europe is already seeing a rise in small hydropower installations, so why not Japan?
✨ 2. Utilizing Existing Dams
Japan has about 2,700 dams, but not all of them are used for power generation.
By adding power generation facilities to existing dams, we can increase electricity production without building new infrastructure.
✨ 3. Expanding Pumped-Storage Hydropower
Pumped-storage hydropower works by using surplus electricity to pump water to a higher elevation and releasing it to generate power when needed.
This system can stabilize power supply fluctuations from solar and wind energy.
