Fortunes and Misfortunes Are Interwoven – The Truth I Found After Becoming Disabled

Spread the love

The saying “Fortunes and misfortunes are interwoven, like strands of a rope” has been passed down for generations. Life brings both joy and hardship, alternating in an unpredictable rhythm. I never truly understood the depth of this phrase—until I lived it myself.

One day, my life took an unexpected turn. I became severely disabled due to a sudden brain hemorrhage, and everything I had built crumbled in an instant. At that moment, I thought I had lost everything. But looking back now, I realize that this “misfortune” was not the end—it was the beginning of a new path, one I never could have imagined.

If you’re struggling right now, I hope this story brings you a sense of hope.

The Day I Thought My Life Was Over
I used to live what I thought was a “normal” life. I worked, had a family, and followed a routine, believing that was what life was about. It wasn’t perfect, but it was stable.

Then, the brain hemorrhage happened.

In an instant, my body changed. My left side was paralyzed. The things I used to do without thinking—walking, holding chopsticks, putting on clothes—became impossible.

Lying in a hospital bed, I kept asking myself, “Why me?” I had worked hard, done nothing wrong. So why was my life shattered so suddenly?

The despair was overwhelming. I longed to return to my old self, but no matter how much I wished, there was no going back. That realization pushed me deeper into hopelessness.

Hope Hides in Unexpected Places
One day, my rehabilitation therapist said something that changed my perspective.

“Your life isn’t over. In fact, this could be the beginning of something new.”

At first, I couldn’t believe it. How could a life with disability be a new beginning?

But those words planted a small seed of hope inside me.

Instead of focusing on what I had lost, I started looking for what I could still do. Through rehabilitation, I discovered something unexpected: the power of listening and empathy.

Before, I had always been focused on achieving results, on moving forward. But now, I learned the value of slowing down, truly hearing people’s stories, and accepting their emotions. This shift in perspective led me to a completely new path.

A New Life as a Blogger and Counselor
I decided to become a counselor and started sharing my journey through blogging.

At first, I wasn’t sure if anyone would read my words. But as I wrote, people began reaching out to me.

“I have a disability too, and your words gave me courage.”
“I felt hopeless, but after reading your blog, I think I can move forward.”
“I always saw my misfortunes as something unfair, but now, I wonder if they might have meaning.”

These messages made me realize something: Even misfortune has value.

If I had never become disabled, I wouldn’t have become a counselor. I wouldn’t have started blogging. I wouldn’t have gained a deeper understanding of life.

In the past, I saw my disability as purely negative. Now, I see it as an essential part of my journey.

“Fortunes and Misfortunes Are Interwoven” – The Truth I Found
If you are facing hardship right now, I want to tell you this:

“Today’s struggle may lead to tomorrow’s hope.”

It’s hard to see this when you are in pain. I know that feeling well.
But life is long. Your current suffering will not last forever.
And even in joy, misfortune may be hidden, waiting for its time.

That’s why it’s important to cherish each moment and do what we can, step by step.

I will continue sharing my journey.
I will keep writing about what I have learned as a person with a disability.
And if my words resonate with even one person, then that, too, is a blessing.

Fortunes and misfortunes are interwoven.
Life is complex, but it continues.
With this truth in my heart, I will keep moving forward.

Believe in yourself.
Cherish today.
And take one step forward, no matter how small.
