The True Sense of Living: Embracing Inconvenience

Spread the love

Hello, and thank you for reading this article. In the daily flow of life, when do you feel that sense of “being alive”? Perhaps it’s found in unexpected, small moments, hidden in everyday events.

I experienced a stroke in my right brain, which left me with paralysis and numbness on my left side. My daily activities now require adjustments and adaptations, and I can no longer move as freely as before. Yet, each time I face a limitation or challenge, I feel a deeper, stronger sense of being alive than I did when I was healthy.

Daily Life When I Was Able-Bodied
When I was able-bodied, everything felt normal and routine. Getting up, washing my face, changing clothes, and going out — all these parts of the day felt like something I did without thinking. I could move freely, with no need for assistance, and my body responded just as I wanted. Looking back, I didn’t realize just how precious these moments were, how “normal” held an invisible happiness and freedom that I took for granted.

Facing Inconvenience in My Current Daily Life
Now, everything is different. Simple tasks like climbing stairs, holding an item, or preparing a meal demand my full focus and careful planning. My left side’s numbness and paralysis are always there, limiting my ability to move as I once did, turning each action into a new challenge.

Truthfully, there are times when I think, “Why did this have to happen to me?” But amidst these daily struggles, I discovered something unexpected. Every time I face inconvenience, I experience a vivid awareness that “I am alive right now.”

Discovering Joy Through Inconvenience
Take, for example, a moment when I manage to wave to someone or carefully make my way down a set of stairs. Before, I wouldn’t have given these actions a second thought, but now each one feels like a small victory, built from countless efforts. The sense of accomplishment is something I never felt when I was able-bodied, and in that moment, I genuinely feel alive.

These small challenges, repeated day after day, help me celebrate tiny successes. In the midst of inconvenience, I’ve come to value each moment of the present, realizing that it is within these moments that life’s irreplaceable richness lies.

The Strength Found in Embracing Inconvenience
Through this experience, I’ve learned that true strength doesn’t mean enduring pain in silence; it means finding joy within reality, just as it is. When we embrace our inconveniences, we can discover our own resilience and potential. No matter the limitations our bodies may have, we can find the joy of “living in the present” — an undeniable proof of life’s strength.

In Closing: Cherishing the Current Self
If there are times in your daily life when you feel disconnected or unfulfilled, try pausing for a moment to recognize the small inconveniences around you. Within these, you may find a unique sense of living that is all your own.

Every day is a challenge for me, but I move forward one step at a time, cherishing myself as I am now. Because it is through inconvenience that I experience the truest sense of being alive, and this has become my joy in life.
