Why do we find ourselves deeply moved by fiction and lies?

Perhaps it is because, in the course of life, reality alone is not enough to contain all our emotions and pain. Daily life is not always filled with joy. There are days when suffering, loneliness, and anxiety threaten to overwhelm us. In such moments, we seek solace in stories. Novels, films, poetry, theater, myths, and history—these narratives reach our hearts more profoundly than reality itself, resonating with us, allowing us to empathize, and giving us hope.

Love, too, follows the same structure. Love is invisible, intangible. And yet, we choose to believe in it, and by loving, we gain the strength to live. There is no definitive proof of its existence. Rather, the act of believing itself is what makes love real. This may be why love holds the greatest power within the realm of fiction.

When we watch romantic films or read novels, we often find ourselves in tears. These stories portray an ideal form of love. Such pure love may not exist in the real world, but we still long to believe in it, to admire it, to be moved by it. By encountering the beauty within fiction, we find hope in our own lives as well.

Furthermore, as the saying goes, “A well-intentioned lie can be a form of kindness.” Sometimes, people are saved not by the harsh truth but by a gentler lie. Words of comfort and encouragement may not always be factual, yet believing in them gives us the strength to move forward. Lies and fiction are not mere illusions—they are light that supports and sustains the human spirit.

This is precisely why literature and art exist. If people were never moved by fiction, then stories, poetry, theater, and cinema would lose their significance. In fact, our very lives might be built upon a foundation of fiction. To believe in the future, to dream—these acts are journeys into a realm beyond reality.

Reality alone is not everything. It is within fiction that we find meaning in life and experience emotions that move us. Both stories and love shine brightest within the realm of imagination. And so, I will continue to weave narratives, hoping to touch someone’s heart, to resonate with them, and to offer support.

We live within fiction. Let us embrace it, revel in it, and share in its profound emotions. In a world where survival itself is a challenge, we need stories, we need love—these are what sustain us. And perhaps, one day, this fiction will become the gentle push that someone needs to move forward.
