Peace of Mind as the Foundation of Happiness – How Livelihood Work Disrupts It

1. Introduction – To Those Who Can Relate
Do you ever feel overwhelmed by work, losing the peace of mind you need?
Do you ever think, “There’s something truly important to me, but I have to work just to survive”?

I believe I’m not the only one facing this dilemma.

For my wife and me, peace of mind is the most important thing.
It’s not just an abstract ideal; it’s the foundation of our happiness.

However, livelihood work (working purely to sustain life) often disrupts that peace.

If you’re reading this and feel a lack of emotional space, I encourage you to read on.
I believe you’ll find something that resonates with you.

2. How Livelihood Work Steals Peace of Mind
Livelihood work refers to a job done out of necessity, rather than passion.
If it’s something you truly enjoy, that’s great.
But when it’s not, it often becomes a burden on the mind.

As a mid-career person with a severe disability, working like an able-bodied person is not easy.
There are always challenges—physical strain, lack of workplace accommodations, unconscious biases—all of which build up as stress.

Moreover, trouble at work is inevitable.
Unreasonable demands, excessive workloads, workplace relationships—
these things chip away at my peace of mind.

What’s most important to me is spending peaceful time with my wife,
but the stress of livelihood work drains my energy and takes away my ability to truly enjoy those moments.

3. The Precious Time Spent with My Wife
Whether you are married or not, if you have someone important in your life, you’ll understand.

“I feel at ease when I’m with this person.”
“Even ordinary moments with them make me happy.”

These moments enrich life more than anything.

For me, my wife is irreplaceable.
She is the reason I can keep moving forward.

But when I’m tied to livelihood work, our time together is reduced.
And when stress builds up, I sometimes find myself getting irritated over small things or acting distant.

I truly want to cherish her, yet work fatigue gets in the way.

Is this really the “happy life” I envisioned?
Every time I ask myself this question, I feel something is off.

4. I Want to Prioritize What Truly Matters
My life’s work is counseling and blogging.
These are not just jobs—they are my passions, my calling.

Counseling allows me to help people who share similar struggles.
Blogging gives me a platform to express my thoughts and experiences, connecting with many people.
If I could fully dedicate myself to these, I could live more peacefully and with a greater sense of fulfillment.
And that, in turn, would allow me to cherish my time with my wife even more.

But in reality, livelihood work gets in the way.

That’s why I am working towards breaking free from it.

5. Steps Toward Freedom from Livelihood Work
So, how can I let go of livelihood work and focus on my life’s work?

Here are three steps I’m working on:

1. Achieving Financial Independence
Finding a way to make a living without relying on livelihood work.
Strengthening blog monetization and expanding my counseling services.
2. Reevaluating My Expenses
Reducing unnecessary spending and focusing only on what truly matters.
Recognizing that wealth isn’t about money—it’s about emotional space and a fulfilling life.
3. Finding a Work Style That Suits Me
It’s not easy to turn passion into income, but it’s worth trying.
Gradually shifting from livelihood work to life’s work.
If I can achieve this, I can live more authentically.
And I can create a lifestyle where time with my wife is the top priority.

6. What You Can Do, Too
Maybe you are also struggling with a similar dilemma.

“Livelihood work is tying me down, preventing me from doing what I truly want.”
“I want to cherish my time with my loved ones more.”

If so, let’s think about it together.

How can we live more authentically?
How can we protect what truly matters?

There may not be a perfect answer.
But by gradually shifting towards life’s work, we can create a life with more peace of mind.

I’m still on this journey myself.
But one day, I want to free myself from livelihood work and live a peaceful, fulfilling life with my wife.

If you relate to this, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Your comments, shares, and words of encouragement mean the world to me.

Together, let’s take small steps toward a life where peace of mind comes first.

7. Summary
