“I know I can do better, so why does it feel so far away?”
As someone living with severe disabilities, the pursuit of my ideals often brings me face-to-face with the reality of my limitations. Yet, despite the challenges, I strive to move forward, believing that my journey might inspire and resonate with others facing similar struggles. This article is written in the hope of providing insight into the hurdles and possibilities we all encounter in life.
Why is the Path to My Ideal So Difficult?
I started blogging to share my experiences, hoping to encourage others and bring awareness to the challenges faced by people with disabilities. Blogging, for me, is more than just writing—it’s a vital way to reclaim my identity and connect with the world.
However, the gap between my aspirations and reality is significant. My ideal self—someone who can overcome daily challenges and thrive as an influential blogger—feels like a distant goal.
Improving my writing skills, engaging more deeply with my readers, and enhancing my ability to convey meaningful messages are all things I yearn for. Yet, the realities of living with a disability—managing fluctuating health and limited energy—make it challenging to achieve my goals at the pace I envision. Still, the desire to share my experiences and support others keeps me writing, one article at a time.
The Pain of Feeling Inadequate
As a blogger, I often compare myself to others who appear more successful. Their follower counts, polished articles, and wide-reaching influence make me acutely aware of my own shortcomings.
It’s particularly disheartening when my efforts don’t seem to yield the results I hope for—when engagement is low, or when I feel my message isn’t reaching as many people as I’d like. Living with severe disabilities means working within a limited framework of time and energy, making it all the more frustrating when progress feels slow or stagnant.
Despite these challenges, I continue to write because I believe that even the smallest ripple can create a wave of change. Perhaps, somewhere out there, my words might resonate with someone who needs them.
Finding Possibilities Amidst the Struggles
Even amidst the difficulties, there are moments of hope. These come in the form of heartfelt comments and messages from readers:
“Your article gave me the courage I needed.”
“As someone in a similar situation, I truly relate to your words.”
These messages remind me that my efforts matter, that my struggles and stories can provide comfort and encouragement to others.
I’ve also come to realize that my unique perspective as a person with disabilities is a strength. By sharing the realities of my daily life and the challenges I face, I can offer others a new way of understanding the world.
Working Towards the Ideal
I know I’m not where I want to be yet. But I firmly believe that progress, however small, is still progress.
To get closer to my ideal, I focus on doing what I can, step by step. Breaking down my larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks helps me feel a sense of accomplishment and keeps me moving forward.
I also remind myself not to be too hard on myself. Instead of berating myself for not being “good enough,” I try to acknowledge that I am doing my best with the resources I have. This mindset helps lighten the mental load and allows me to keep going.
A Message to You
If you’re reading this, you might also be struggling between your ideals and reality. That struggle is tough, and it’s okay to feel that way. But I want you to know that within that struggle lies the potential for growth and change. By believing in ourselves and taking one step at a time, we can make a difference—not just in our lives but also in the lives of others.
If this article resonates with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts and feelings. Your voice is a source of great encouragement for me. And if you feel inspired, sharing this article can help spread its message, offering hope and courage to others.
Finally, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me on this journey. I will continue striving toward my ideal self, step by step. Together, let’s work to create a brighter future.
