Living Without Overthinking: How to Accept Mistakes at Work as Part of Life

Life is like a long journey, filled with many different experiences along the way. Among them, mistakes at work are something almost everyone faces at some point. When we make a mistake, we often feel as if we’ve failed in a big way and tend to be overly critical of ourselves. However, what’s important here is the idea of not overthinking things.

A mistake at work is just a fleeting moment. When we look at the entire span of our lives, it’s just a small part of the whole picture. Practicing a parallel life means viewing life from multiple perspectives and enjoying various paths at the same time. In other words, even if we make a mistake at work, we can regain balance by shifting our focus to other aspects or activities.

For example, when feeling down after making a mistake at work, try shifting your attention to your hobbies or spending time with family. This can create space in your mind, allowing you to regain the energy needed to move forward. We don’t need to dedicate every part of our lives to work. While work is important, it’s not the only source of fulfillment—life offers many other aspects of richness. The concept of parallel life provides us with valuable insights on how to make the most of this richness.

Of course, ignoring mistakes is not the answer. Reflecting on them, taking responsibility, and applying those lessons to avoid repeating the same errors is essential for professional growth. However, letting that reflection turn into excessive self-criticism or stress can prevent us from performing at our best. Overthinking our mistakes can actually cause us to miss future opportunities.

As someone who practices parallel life, I’ve experienced my fair share of mistakes. Each time, I’ve felt down, but I always remind myself, “This is not my entire life.” We all have multiple roles and responsibilities, and one mistake doesn’t define everything we are. By focusing on where we are succeeding or the areas where we’ve grown, the heaviness of those mistakes gradually lessens.

Adopting a mindset of not overthinking allows us to gain perspective on life as a whole. The problems and worries we face right now may seem big in the moment, but often, their importance fades over time. Mistakes are just one such problem. When we look back at the long arc of our lives, a mistake is simply a stepping stone.

What we should focus on is learning from our mistakes so that we don’t repeat them, and using that learning to drive future success. When we do this, mistakes become a vital part of our personal growth.

This “don’t overthink” mindset gives us freedom and stability. As a result, not just our work, but our entire lives become more fulfilling and filled with happiness. For those of us living a parallel life, work is only one facet of who we are. By valuing and appreciating the other joys and values life offers, we can lead balanced and enriched lives.

I hope this message reaches those who might be struggling with a mistake at work and helps lighten their burden. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Take courage and move forward to the next step.

Let’s engrave the words “don’t overthink” in our hearts and walk the path of life’s journey a little more lightly and fully.
