Hello everyone. Today, I want to delve a bit deeper into the concept of “Active Listening.” Our daily conversations sometimes lead to deep understanding and empathy, but behind this lies a powerful skill known as active listening.
What is Active Listening?
Active listening means more than just lending an ear. It involves deeply empathizing and understanding not just the words, but also the emotions and experiences of others. It’s about being sensitive to the unspoken thoughts and feelings behind the words.
Hearing the Unspoken Voice
When we talk, there are many things we feel but do not express in words. Like a skilled counselor, tuning in to this “unspoken voice” is the first step in deeply understanding others.
Techniques of Active Listening
Pay Attention to Non-Verbal Communication: Read emotions through gestures and facial expressions, not just words.
Empathetic Understanding: Stand in the shoes of others, and express their emotions in words. This helps the other person feel deeply understood.
An Open Mind: Suppress your own values and prejudices, and accept the other person’s words openly.
Listen and Maintain Silence: Wait patiently until the other person finds their own words.
Applying in Daily Life
Active listening isn’t just for professional counselors. In our daily lives, with family, friends, and at work, being aware of active listening can help us build deeper relationships.
Why not start being a little more conscious from today? Listen not only to the words but also to the emotions and thoughts behind them. This small step can lead to richer communication.
