Having a Framework for Action: Living as a Person with a Disability

Spread the love

Have you ever felt like “just living is hard enough”?
I have lived for over ten years as a person with a severe disability acquired later in life. During this time, I’ve experienced countless days of frustration—feeling inadequate, blaming myself, and worrying about how others see me. Yet through these struggles, I’ve learned one invaluable lesson: no matter how limited our circumstances, we can regain the power to take action. To achieve this, it’s essential to have a “framework for action” within ourselves.

In this article, I’ll share the importance of having a personal framework for taking action, which enables us to act purposefully and effectively. This framework is the result of my own trial and error. I hope that by sharing it, I can support others who are navigating their own challenges.

Why a Framework Is Necessary
Living with a disability means that every action—no matter how small—requires more energy compared to when I was healthy.
For example, even something as simple as going out requires extra preparation and results in greater fatigue. That’s why I consciously clarify my purpose, choose the right methods, and predict outcomes before taking action. This is what I mean by having a “framework for action.”

Having a framework provides several benefits:

It reduces indecision by clarifying your purpose.
It increases efficiency, making your actions more effective.
It helps you maximize limited resources like time, energy, and money.
Without a framework, actions are more likely to lead to frustration or disappointment. But with a solid framework in place, you can act with confidence and focus.

My Personal Framework for Action
Here are three key steps I use to create my own framework for action:

1. Clarify Your Purpose
The first step is to identify why you’re taking action.
For example, when I write blog posts, my purpose is always to “share the realities of living with a disability and inspire empathy and support from others.” When your purpose is clear, even the most challenging actions feel meaningful.

2. Choose the Right Methods
Next, consider the most effective way to achieve your purpose.
In blogging, this might mean crafting relatable stories, simplifying complex information, or using social media to share posts. By choosing methods that align with your strengths and limitations, you make it easier to follow through consistently.

3. Predict and Reflect on Outcomes
Before taking action, I predict what kind of impact it might have. Afterward, I reflect on the results. For instance, when a blog post gets shared widely, I analyze why it resonated and use that insight to inform future posts. Repeating this cycle helps refine my framework over time.

What You Can Gain from a Framework
Having a framework reduces uncertainty and builds confidence in your actions.
Even as someone living with a disability, I’ve been able to connect with many people through my blog. This success is a direct result of having and following a clear framework for action.

Moreover, a strong framework makes it easier to gain support from others. When your purpose and methods are well-defined, people around you are more likely to feel inspired to help.

A Message to You
A framework for action isn’t something reserved for a select few.
Anyone can create a framework that fits their unique circumstances. Whether or not you have a disability, having a framework can gradually improve your quality of life.

If you’re feeling stuck or unsure of your next step, why not start by creating your own framework? Even small actions matter. Taking that first step can open up a whole new world of possibilities.

I wholeheartedly support your efforts, and I hope this message resonates with you.
