Have you ever felt confused between your work and your life’s work? I often find myself in this situation. Especially after returning to work from a break, I sometimes wonder, “Am I really working towards what I want?” There are moments when the purpose of working every day becomes blurry, and I question whether my job is truly fulfilling me. Like many others, I occasionally feel the emptiness of working solely for money.
What’s essential here is whether our work serves not just as a means to make a living but also as a path to self-fulfillment. In today’s society, many people idealize the idea of expressing themselves and contributing to society through their jobs. However, in reality, most jobs are just “a way to support ourselves financially,” and it can be challenging to find value in them as part of our “life’s work.” Especially for those practicing parallel life like me, juggling multiple roles and jobs at the same time, it’s not always easy to discern what truly aligns with our life’s work and what is merely a means to pay the bills.
In my journey as a practitioner of parallel life, I’ve continually reflected on the question, “What is my life’s work?” Through my various jobs and projects, I’ve come to realize that the most important thing is finding something you’re truly passionate about and gradually shaping it. Life’s work isn’t necessarily something that immediately generates income. Rather, it’s something that helps you reaffirm your values and life direction without the need for financial incentives.
For me, one expression of my life’s work is blogging. Writing a blog isn’t just about sharing information—it’s an act of self-expression and a form of dialogue with readers. Especially when I write about topics such as parallel life, work philosophy, and self-care, I feel that I’m contributing to something larger than myself. Through blogging, I organize my thoughts and share them with others, hoping to positively impact someone’s life, even if in a small way.
The Power of Empathy and Connection through Blogging
One of the greatest things about blogging is the ability to connect with others who share similar experiences. As I share my own journey, many people who are also struggling with the balance between work and life’s work resonate with my words. These connections give me strength and remind me that I am not alone in this journey.
The theme of parallel life especially resonates with many people today, as more and more are exploring new ways of living and working. The authenticity of sharing my real-life experiences seems to strike a chord with others. If you, too, feel the same emptiness in your work, I encourage you to find and cherish your life’s work. It might not be financially rewarding right away, but it will bring clarity to your values and life direction.
The Enrichment that Comes from Practicing Parallel Life
By practicing parallel life, I have found a way to balance different jobs while still dedicating time and energy to my life’s work. While work is essential for supporting our day-to-day needs, it alone cannot bring true fulfillment. By devoting time to my life’s work, I have experienced personal growth and a deeper sense of purpose.
For instance, the time I spend writing my blog might not generate direct income. However, there is something far more valuable in that time—writing about what I truly care about and connecting with readers. That moment, when my words resonate with someone, is what makes life’s work meaningful to me. It’s that connection and impact that sustains me.
Overcoming the Emptiness of Returning to Work
After a break, going back to work can sometimes make you question whether you’re on the right path. However, to ease that emptiness, I believe it’s essential to integrate life’s work into our daily lives. Even if it’s just a small amount of time, dedicating time to something you’re passionate about can change your motivation towards your job.
Moreover, by continuing with your life’s work, you’ll begin to see that, even if it doesn’t show immediate results, you are gradually paving your own path. As you engage in dialogues with readers through your blog, your thoughts will start to take shape, and you’ll feel those thoughts touch someone else’s heart. That moment is what brings me the greatest joy and is the driving force behind why I continue blogging.
Find Your Life’s Work
If you’re feeling the emptiness of work right now, take a moment to pause and reflect. What is something you’re truly passionate about? The answer to that question is your life’s work. Life’s work may not necessarily bring immediate financial rewards, but it will bring you a deeper sense of fulfillment and satisfaction.
Through blogging, which is my life’s work, I’ve been able to prioritize self-care and deepen my connections with others. I encourage you to find your life’s work and incorporate it into your daily life. It could be the key to overcoming the sense of emptiness and living a more fulfilling life.
Together, let’s continue practicing a life where we cherish our life’s work. By sharing our experiences through blogs, we can spread empathy and connect with many people, making our lives even richer.
