A Fresh Start for Regional Revitalization: Embarking on a New Chapter in 2025

Hello, everyone. I am a mid-career individual living with a severe disability, sharing my experiences and thoughts through this blog. Today, I want to talk about something close to my heart: regional revitalization. While I’ve had to step back from this work for a couple of years to stabilize my life, I’m excited to return to it in 2025. Let me take you on a journey through my past efforts, the lessons I’ve learned, and my hopes for the future.

From Akashi to Yabu: The First Steps in Regional Revitalization
A few years ago, I relocated from Akashi to Yabu City, driven by a passion for regional revitalization. Back then, my days were filled with inspiring moments: engaging in discussions with city council members and the mayor, building local communities, and tackling regional challenges alongside the residents.

Yabu City is a treasure trove of natural beauty and cultural richness, but like many rural areas, it faces pressing issues such as population aging, youth outmigration, and economic stagnation. These challenges became my call to action, shaping my vision of revitalizing this community. As an outsider, integrating into the local fabric wasn’t easy, but the warm support of the residents gave me the strength to keep moving forward.

Prioritizing Stability: A Necessary Pause
Over the past two years, I shifted my focus away from revitalization efforts to concentrate on stabilizing my life. Between job changes and juggling multiple roles, I realized that creating a solid foundation for myself and my family was essential. It wasn’t an easy decision—stepping back felt like abandoning my goals. But I knew that without personal stability, I couldn’t make meaningful contributions to the community.

Looking back, I see this period as a vital preparation phase. Now, as my life has regained its balance, I feel ready to embrace regional revitalization once more, starting fresh in 2025.

Looking Ahead: Plans for a New Challenge
As I re-enter the field of regional revitalization, I’ve set a few key priorities to guide my efforts.

1. Maintaining a Sustainable Pace
In my earlier work, I often pushed myself too hard, which led to burnout. This time, I’m committed to pacing myself and focusing on initiatives that can grow steadily over time. My motto is simple: “Start small, grow big.” I’ll begin by reconnecting with local residents and identifying the community’s current needs.

2. Harnessing the Power of Digital Tools
One challenge rural communities face is limited visibility. By leveraging blogs and social media, I hope to spotlight Yabu City’s unique charm and ongoing projects. My goal is to foster connections with people both within and beyond the region, creating opportunities for collaboration.

3. Fostering Intergenerational Communities
Another focus is bridging the gap between generations. I want to create spaces where younger and older generations can engage with one another, sharing experiences and building a sense of unity. This approach can breathe new life into the community and ensure its sustainability.

For the Community, and for Myself
For me, regional revitalization isn’t just about giving back to the community—it’s also a deeply personal journey of growth and connection. Living with a disability has shown me how much we rely on the support of those around us. By contributing to the community’s future, I hope to repay the kindness I’ve received.

In 2025, my journey begins anew. I’m starting small, laying the groundwork for larger efforts in the years to come. By using my skills, experiences, and passion, I aim to create a positive impact for both the community and myself.

A Call to Action
If this story resonates with you, I’d be grateful if you could share it. Your support could help me connect with others who are interested in regional revitalization, bringing fresh ideas and perspectives into the fold. If you have suggestions or advice, I’d love to hear them.

Thank you for reading to the end. I’m excited to share my progress with you and invite you to join me on this journey. Together, let’s take one step at a time toward a brighter future—for Yabu City, and for all of us.
