Introduction | The Day I Met My ‘Mediator’ Type—and Forgave Myself
When I was told by the MBTI test, “You’re an INFP, a Mediator,” I quietly shed a tear.
Having acquired a severe physical disability in adulthood, I often felt lost and worthless. But hearing those words felt like being told, “Your sensitivity and idealism have healing power.”
That diagnosis was more than a label—it was a catalyst for self-acceptance and a bridge toward understanding others.
Chapter 1 | What is MBTI? — More Than a Personality Test, a Map for Life
MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) is based on Carl Jung’s theory of psychological types and classifies people into 16 types using four dichotomies:
- Extraversion (E) / Introversion (I)
- Sensing (S) / Intuition (N)
- Thinking (T) / Feeling (F)
- Judging (J) / Perceiving (P)
My type is INFP: introverted, intuitive, feeling, and perceiving.
This isn’t just a label. It’s a reflection of how we perceive the world and make decisions—it’s a mirror to our inner workings.
Chapter 2 | Why MBTI Is So Popular Now
1. Hunger for Self-Understanding
In a world where AI and social media amplify external expectations, many are losing sight of who they really are. MBTI offers words to describe the blurry feelings of “Who am I?”
2. Common Language in the Age of Diversity
As diversity grows, we need tools to understand differences without judging them. MBTI helps frame difference as a strength, not a flaw.
3. Rebuilding Self-Esteem
People like INFPs often hear: “You’re too sensitive,” or “You’re not practical.”
But MBTI says, “That’s your gift.”
This can shift someone from self-doubt to self-acceptance.
4. Entertainment and Shareability
MBTI content thrives on TikTok and YouTube. It’s fun, relatable, and easy to share—a perfect match for the SNS generation.
5. The Pandemic and Isolation
COVID-19 forced people to face their inner selves. MBTI became a companion on that inner journey.
Chapter 3 | Facing MBTI’s Weaknesses and Making Peace
Yes, MBTI has its flaws:
- Moderate reliability
- Risk of rigid labeling
- Potential misuse in workplaces
But even so, I believe MBTI is valuable.
For me as an INFP, MBTI is not a “right answer machine,” but a gentle philosophy for understanding and caring for ourselves.
Chapter 4 | INFP — The Professional of Compassion
INFPs are known for:
- Idealism
- Deep empathy
- Inner focus
- Creativity and artistry
While these traits can make life challenging, they are also exactly what make INFPs suited to be counselors.
I aspire to become one—not in spite of being INFP, but because of it.
Chapter 5 | 4 Practical Ways to Apply MBTI in Life
- Use types as guides, not cages
- Respect difference as diversity, not superiority
- Allow misunderstanding in human relationships
- Embrace the evolving nature of your type as growth
Conclusion | MBTI as a Culture of Empathy and Forgiveness
MBTI told me, “You’re okay the way you are.”
After becoming disabled and losing my way, INFP became my flag of redefinition.
Thanks to this framework, I’m able to keep writing and wishing to be near someone’s pain.
Final Note | Your Type Has the Power to Heal Too
There is no better or worse type.
Your “you-ness” has the power to heal.
Please don’t try to be someone else. Just listen to your heart. It knows your truth.
As a Mediator, aspiring counselor, and human being, I will keep writing about ways to face the world gently.
I hope you will, too.
